Our World Harvest Ministry History
World Harvest Ministries (WHM) was born out of the heart of God to be the light of Christ. We are a body of believers passionate about loving God and loving His people. We are here to serve the community, and enrich their lives by presenting the Gospel of Jesus Christ and ourselves as living sacrifices.
WHM was founded on January 12, 2000, on a Wednesday night bible study by Bishop Terry Glenn. After teaching God’s word for the day on 1590 AM radio station the prior year, many were calling to find out where they could attend services. God led Bishop to start the ministry in the garage of his home, 2924 Wayne Street, Kansas City, MO.
On the first Sunday of Service, there were 4 people in attendance. Within a month, the garage was full and the children's church was in the living room. After 6 months of services in the garage, the sale of a church building located at 3400 Woodland became available. This became the home of World Harvest Ministries and the current location of the church.
WHM has been serving this low-income, under-resourced community for over 22 years. It is a place where people know they can hear the gospel preached and find love in action no matter where they are in life.
This community is considered a food desert with limited access to healthy foods. In 2011, Harvest Learning Center Market was opened to combat this issue, bringing local produce, grass-fed beef, and free-range chicken to the community. The Market was housed in the rear section of the church building (currently closed due to COVID-19). A partnership with Menorah Legacy Foundation provided a grant that allowed the Market to sell healthy food at half the retail prices for those using snap benefits. The Market was also blessed to be a part of a grant from the Kellogg Foundation overseen by Good Natured Family Farms and KC Healthy Kids that provided operational revenue to run the market. In 2020, the market transitioned into a food pantry to serve the community devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2017, for greater community development, World Harvest launched iCare Village of Hope, a non-profit organization creating safe homes for vulnerable children and families.
World Harvest continues to look for ways to serve the underserved; disciple believers, and train leaders for the future. For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world-Our Faith. 1 John 5:4
